Mount Sinai West Hospital
Our patients give birth at Mount Sinai West Hospital in their state-of-the-art labor and delivery suite. We commit to being with you at the hospital throughout your hospital stay during labor & birth.
MSW's Labor & Delivery suite offers continuous and intermittent fetal heart monitoring, bathtubs & showers in each labor room, as well as nitrous oxide and epidurals for pain relief. As midwives we are specialists in low intervention birth, and we have a host of tools to support you in birthing in whatever way you choose.
We highly recommend the hospital tour and reading the hospital's website information if you are considering coming to our practice. The tour is currently virtual and can be viewed at any stage of pregnancy (or even before). Another great, unofficial tour by another midwife can be found here. Information can be found on their website for obstetric services and in the guidebook for giving birth at MSW.
Many postpartum rooms at MSW are newly renovated and private rooms. Families will have their own, private postpartum room, except in circumstances when patient volume is very high. This is a rare and temporary occurrence, when it happens.
Mount Sinai West participates in most commercial, marketplace, and state funded insurance plans. We recommend checking this with your health insurance provider. Of note, the hospital may be listed as St-Lukes Roosevelt, which is an old name. If your plan participates with Mount Sinai (any hospital), they are considered in network.

Insurance PolicyThe cost of pregnancy care is a concern for many of our clients. It is helpful for our clients to fully understand their benefits (copays, out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, etc) before starting their prenatal care. You can obtain your benefits, both in and out of network, by calling your insurance company directly. It is important to remember that your insurance company will always attempt to deter you from going out of network, but that doesn't mean that the cost may not be comparable to an amount you might end up paying that is similar to an in-network deductible, especially if that amount is very high.
Central Park Midwifery midwives are out of network providers. We work with an experienced medical biller who will help you to understand your benefits and associated costs. He is happy to speak to anyone with billing questions. If you are interested in coming to us, please don't let insurance estimates or out of pocket costs alone deter you. If we do not accept your insurance or you do not have out-of-network benefits, we still want to hear from you! We can often help you find a way to get coverage or discuss an out-of-pocket fee for any kind of visit, including gynecology and maternity care. There are sometimes workarounds to insurance and billing, so please give him a call regardless of your insurance coverage or out of network benefits. We can't guarantee it will always work out, but it's always worth checking! Important notes about why we are out of network providers:

Pregnancy and Birth Investment
Central Park Midwifery is devoted to providing exceptional, individualized, and high-quality midwifery care. We are midwifery owned and operated, which means we are directly involved in the financial aspects of our practice.
Maternity billing is usually calculated by the "global maternity" package, which includes all prenatal visits, care during labor and birth, and postpartum care. The number of visits and hours spent can vary, but the average is about 10-12 prenatal visits and 1-2 postpartum visits, plus time spent during labor and birth.
In order to provide this type of extraordinary and heartfelt care, we have set our fees accordingly. Transparency is important to us, and our fees are listed here (though are subject to change, please be sure to confirm with the office/medical biller for the most current and updated information). These fees are current as of September 1, 2024.
Self pay/out of pocket fee for global maternity (not using out of network insurance benefits):
$7000
Global maternity (full pregnancy fee) using out of network health insurance:
$8000
*This is the expected amount based on insurance payments/copayments/coinsurance which is a combination of insurance and client payments and the amount of pocket varies depending on an individual’s health insurance plan.
Other Helpful Information About Costs:
In all cases (whether you are paying out-of-pocket or using insurance), we guarantee that your cost will be no more than $7000 out-of-pocket.
This means that if you join in your first trimester, this includes approximately 7 months of prenatal care and 4 months of postpartum care, that is a year of support at or less than $583 per month.
We work with a dedicated and experienced billing specialist who provides honest and personal advice to maximize your insurance benefits and will bill your insurance directly - no need to submit receipts for reimbursement unless you choose to.
Clients who use their out-of-network insurance benefits pay an average of about $4000 out-of-pocket, with some folks paying as low as $750 (the fee for our deposit).
We offer payment plans, if necessary. We can customize your payment schedule to fit your financial needs.
We accept multiple methods of payment, including Zelle, checks, credit cards, FSA/ HSA, and cash.
We are open to discussing lower fees for folks who wish to use our services and require a reduced fee. We want to increase accessibility to midwifery care for those who need it. Distributions will prioritize folks who identify as BIPOC or queer and demonstrate financial need. We also accept donations for this fund to continue to allow us to provide these important discounted rates.
We also offer a discounted rate for city employees using GHI/Emblem insurance.

Gynecology, Contraception, and Preconception Fees
In addition to pregnancy, we are very passionate about our gynecology, contraception, and preconception visits. We love to see folks at any stage of life from puberty through menopause, even when children are not part of their plan.
Our fees are listed here (though are subject to change, please be sure to confirm with the office/medical biller for the most current and updated information). These fees are current as of February 22, 2024.
Fees are the same whether the appointment is in person or virtual. We do not bill insurance directly for these visits, but we will provide receipts for insurance reimbursement, if desired. We accept FSA as a payment method. |
