Pediatricians

Picking a pediatric provider should be done during the pregnancy. It's important to pick someone close to home (walking distance, if possible) so that you don't have to travel far with a new baby, especially in the early weeks. A baby usually needs to see their provider within 1-2 days after leaving the hospital. Visit frequency varies, but is more frequent in the first year of life.

We recommend a provider specific to pediatrics versus a family medicine provider. They are often more well versed in newborn care and lactation, and they often have special time slots for newborns/young babies. Though a family medicine provider is okay, we recommend checking ahead of time if they have experience with newborns and nursing.

A very popular practice with several locations is Tribeca Pediatrics. They are convenient and popular and many CPM families use them (including Elaine). Though it is a larger practice, you can keep continuity by seeing the same provider. This is only one suggested practice, but we mention it here because not every practice is mentioned in the spreadsheet because they have so many locations and providers and are always growing. We are happy to talk more about this group and our experience, if you wish.
